Originating from the Dowayo/Namji ethnic group in Cameroon, Namji Dolls are carved from a single piece of wood, feature rounded geometric forms, beaded necklaces, and cowrie shell decoration. The dolls are historically made for young girls who sling dolls over their backs to mirror the responsibility of their own mothers. Namji dolls traditionally were carved to embody strength and self-confidence. The figures have sleek shapes with ornamental materials to signify wealth, strength and opulence. Each figure commands respect in its sheer beauty.

Their art/décor is typically characterized by an extensive use of materials such as colorful beads, Cowrie shells, coins, rope, leather, and metal strips. Without a doubt, Namji Dolls are their most infamous work.

Style your Namji atop a stack of coffee table books or nestled into a group of picture frames. As standalone pieces or groupings, these dolls are lovely gift items, especially to fashionable friends who decorate themselves with confidence and Namji Doll-style and flair.
